Text Box: A Somber Mark Hunt Making His UFC Debut
By James Lawrence

It has been a long, tough road for former K-1 champion Mark Hunt. Hunt has been on a five fight losing streak to fighters the likes of  Gegard Mousasi, Melvin Manhoef, Fedor Emelianenko, Josh Barnett and Alistair Overeem and he now has a shot in the UFC.
Many UFC fans were outraged by the extremely out of shape Hunt fighting in the UFC, but UFC President Dana White responded to the anger via Twitter by stating that Hunt was due fights in the UFC after the organization purchased PRIDE in 2007.
In an interview with Sherdog, Hunt had the opportunity to address his lack of training in the past, his present state, and cutting weight:
"If I'd trained as hard as some of the guys out here, I probably wouldn't be sitting here right now. I'd be at a different level of fighting. I never had to make weight before. I never gave a damn what I ate. I've already stopped eating KFC, chocolate, that stuff. I've got a personal trainer, never had one of them before. For me now, I know this is my last chance. I won a K-1 world title, then I fought MMA. I wanted to win, but I didn't have that drive to be a champion. I feel like now, I really want to be an MMA champion."
It's hard not to root for a guy who admits that he has made mistakes in the past and is now trying to make up for them. Weighing in currently at 300 pounds, Hunt has a ways to go to reach the heavyweight division's weight limit of 265 pounds by UFC 119 in September. It's doubtful that the 36-year-old Hunt will ever become an MMA champion, but Hunt is entertaining and it will be interesting to see how he performs in the UFC.
